How to create a QR code for a website link
Turn a destination URL into a scannable QR code, then test it before printing or sharing.
What is inside a URL QR code?
A QR code stores data that a phone scanner can interpret. For a website QR code, that data is the URL you provide. The code does not automatically shorten the link, check whether the site is safe, or confirm that the destination will remain online.
Make and verify a code
- Open CraftAI's URL QR Generator.
- Enter a complete web address beginning with
https://orhttp://. Check spelling and the domain before generating. - Create the QR image and download the offered output format.
- Scan the saved result with a second device, or with a camera application capable of scanning QR codes. Check the previewed address before opening it.
- If you plan to print it, test at the intended physical size and on the actual background colour.
A café wants customers to open its online menu at https://example.com/menu. Encode that exact URL, then scan the downloaded QR and confirm it resolves to the intended menu. If the menu moves later, a static code still contains the old URL unless the owner controls a forwarding destination.
Printing tips
Give the pattern a clear border and enough contrast with the background. Tiny codes on glossy or curved packaging may scan unreliably. The longer the encoded content, the more complex the code can become, so test it before ordering a large print run.
Common questions
Does the QR code expire?
A static QR image has no built-in expiry, but its linked website can change, go offline or require sign-in. Avoid promising perpetual access to an external site.
Can a QR code verify a recipient or website?
No. Scanners and users must still check the destination. Treat unexpected codes as untrusted links, especially when they request payments or login credentials.
Download the code, save it with a descriptive filename and confirm the destination on more than one device before distribution.
Put the steps into practice
The linked utility opens in your browser. Review its current on-page limits and inspect the output before sharing it.
