How to make a UPI payment QR code with an amount

Generate a payment-request QR code from your own UPI ID, then check the payee and amount before displaying or sharing it. The QR is a payment initiation aid, not proof that money arrived.

What does the QR code contain?

A UPI payment QR can encode a payment URI with the payee's UPI ID, an optional displayed name, and optionally a requested amount or note. Compatible apps can read that information and present a payment screen. The scanning app, the payer and the bank still determine whether any transfer is initiated and completed.

A static payment QR without a fixed amount can be reused for different amounts. A QR containing an amount may prefill the figure in a compatible app; users should still check the amount shown by their own app. Do not treat a screenshot of a QR, an app success message from another person or a generated SVG as confirmation of payment.

Create a code in CraftAI

  1. Open the UPI QR Code Generator and enter the UPI ID associated with the receiving account. Double-check spelling.
  2. Enter the payee name. This is descriptive text supplied by you and is not a bank-verified identity check.
  3. Optionally enter an INR amount and a short payment note. For a general counter sign, leaving the amount blank may be more practical.
  4. Choose a readable QR preview size and generate the SVG in the browser. Save the file and keep a copy of the source details for your own records.
  5. Before printing or publishing, scan the saved QR with a trusted UPI application. Confirm the recipient UPI ID, displayed name and amount presented by that application. Do not authorize a real payment just to see whether the code scans.
Reproducible example — illustration only

Use sample@upi as a fictional example UPI ID, Sample Shop as the display name, 125.50 for the requested INR amount, and Notebook as the note. The tool can generate a QR image for these fields, but this test value is not a real merchant account. Never send money to an unverified address to test the output.

Common mistakes to avoid

“The QR confirms this is a verified business.”

It does not. A QR can carry text provided by anyone. An app may display additional recipient information after scanning, but the generator itself does not access bank databases or validate account ownership.

“The amount is locked and can't change.”

Different UPI apps handle optional amount fields differently. Treat the figure as a requested value, not a guarantee. Ask the payer to check the amount before authorization, and separately verify settlement in your receiving account.

“Scanning a QR is the same as receiving payment.”

Scanning only reads data. A payer normally has to complete additional steps in their payment app. Verify a successful receipt through your own bank or payment service, not by relying on an untrusted screenshot.

“Can I include a UPI PIN in the code?”

Never include or request a UPI PIN or OTP. They are sensitive authentication information, not a legitimate field for generating a receiving QR code. If anyone asks for a PIN to receive money, treat the request as suspicious.

Printing and accessibility

Keep sufficient white space around the QR and print it with strong contrast. Test a sample print at its intended size under ordinary lighting and on more than one compatible phone if possible. Place a readable payee name and contact details nearby so users can cross-check the destination.

For a website link instead of a payment request, use the URL QR generator. For an existing QR image, try the QR scanner. For basic UPI information see the National Payments Corporation of India UPI FAQ.

Check your own result

All information in the UPI generator is entered by the visitor. Processing happens in the browser; the tool cannot access your bank balance or verify a completed transfer. Check the generated QR and recipient details independently before distribution.
