How to turn a page title into a readable URL slug
A URL slug is the final readable part of many page addresses. Learn to format it safely without accidentally breaking an existing link.
What is a URL slug?
In example.com/blog/prepare-pdf-for-printing, prepare-pdf-for-printing is the slug. It helps visitors recognize the topic of a link before opening it. It is not a substitute for a descriptive page title or helpful page content.

Should your slug include the whole title?
Choose a readable and accurate name. A compact slug such as photo-resize-guide is easier to scan than one containing a full sentence or repeated search phrases. Avoid dates unless the date is essential to the page. Consistency matters more than squeezing keywords into every URL.
Existing URLs: avoid a common mistake
Editing the slug of an already published page changes its address. Visitors following bookmarks and external links can end up with an error even though the new page works. If you must move a page, configure an appropriate permanent redirect from the old URL, update internal navigation and sitemaps, and check the new canonical URL. A client-side link update alone is not the same as an HTTP redirect.
Non-English titles and special characters
Some letters are retained as Unicode and may appear percent-encoded in the address bar. The tool does not guarantee that Hindi, Telugu or other scripts are transliterated to English. Test links on your actual website and do not assume every content-management system accepts the same characters.
Does a cleaner slug guarantee a higher Google ranking?
