How to use

100% produces weighted grayscale; lower strengths retain some original color.

Limits and behavior

Uses 0.2126R + 0.7152G + 0.0722B on decoded sRGB channels. Alpha is preserved. Still PNG, JPEG and WebP only, up to 20 MB, 4 megapixels and 4,096 pixels per side. Animated PNG/WebP are rejected. Processing and downloads stay on your device. Browser decoding applies EXIF orientation; exports do not preserve EXIF, DPI or original color-profile metadata. PNG preserves transparency; JPEG flattens it onto white. WebP export requires a browser encoder and is checked before download.

Turn a color picture into shades of gray

Convert image colors to grayscale using weighted RGB values, creating a monochrome result useful for documents, graphics and simple visual effects.

Is grayscale the same as a strict black-and-white threshold?

No. Grayscale can contain many shades between black and white rather than only two possible colors.
